Our ministry is more like a mission than a church. We conduct a church service beginning with breakfast every Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Our music is awesome. Tony (t-Bone) Koonce, his wife Melanie (Pup) Koonce, brother-in-law Lynn (Styx) Ligon, and backup singers do a great job of putting an old rock n' roll sound to minister to people. The message to us is clear through the simple gospel of Christ. It is a message of freedom, not only freedom from sin but mostly freedom to over come through love and compassion. Christianity teaches us that being Christ like is to be without sin and/or to abstain, but the truth is many of us have daily struggles that nobody knows about. Here at Set Free, we live a life of freedom and let God change us through a personal relationship. In all reality, people give up on God because they just can't be "good enough." Let me encourage you to never give up. He is always there for you and we will be to. Out of all the rules and commandments in the bible Jesus said in Mark 12:30,"These two are the greatest: To love the Lord God with all your heart, mind, and soul and to love your neighbor as yourself.There is no greater commandment than these." So no matter who you are or what you have done, you are welcomed at Set Free Church.
Crusaders Set Free motorcycle and street ministries
Our motorcycle and street ministries will go where others fear to go. We have had the opportunities to go to biker parties and to get to know people that we may otherwise not know. They get the chance to see that Christian people can still live the life of freedom. Most people in today’s society think that Christianity is boring, but my friend we are far from that. God is exciting and fun. We sometimes get to talk to these bikers about our relationship with Jesus Christ and that is what it is all about.
The Rock Crusades is a 40ft. long tractor trailer that lets down to be a stage. We use it for concerts in parks and in parking lots. The bottom line is we see great results whenever and wherever we go. Pray for God to continue to give us the opportunity to do what he has called us to do.
Set Free Band - Set Free band is a Christian Rock band that mixes original songs with, contemporary, classic rock and blues. Their original songs will stir you to your very core. Each one carrying a message. A message of hope, love and faith. No matter if it’s an original written by T-Bone, a cover tune they’ve added their own blend of lyrics too or a timeless classic. They are constantly updating their repertoire of songs, keeping their sound fresh. As a group, you’ll find that they provide the kind of showmanship which can only come from years of performing on stage in front of live audiences of all types and sizes. They’ve played almost every kind of venue there is. They’ve played large motorcycle rally’s, local motorcycle poker runs, coffee houses, pubs, bars, benefits and have even played local Christian Rock “Battle of the bands” competitions. Quite often you will find them playing at an event for donations only. Yet they’ll bring a portable gas grill and serve up freshly cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and BBQ chicken. They do it for folks that sometimes struggle to find a hot meal, again asking for donations only, no matter how small. Set Free’s following spans all age groups. You’ll often find toddlers swaying to the music, mesmerized by the action of a live band. You’ll find older folks tapping their knees or bobbing their heads following the music. Folks will lip sink familiar lyrics along with T-Bone or Mel. Set Free band is a presence, a presence that can’t be denied. Come give them a listen. You can find them at Set Free church about every Sunday morning warming up the congregation before Brother Marty begins his sermon.
The musicians who warm the soul – T-Bone shares the vocals but dominates as lead guitarist for Set Free band. His range and style will leave you slack jawed and in total awe. He becomes so taken by presenting his music that you too will become infected with it’s message. T-Bone’s style of vocals will soothe you one minute and excite you the next. His soft dripping blues licks or energetic lead riffs, transforms the moment into a religious experience that won’t soon be forgotten. His wife Mel, who does equal time as lead vocalist, is the heart beat of the band providing a throbbing bass line that quickens one’s pulse. One’s soul reverberates with the rhythm of the melody produced by her style. Her steady bumping bass line lulls and soothes your audio senses, washing over you like ripples in a pond. When Mel belts out her vocals, you can’t help but compare her to the gravely blues style of Janice Joplin. You’ll hear the emotion in her voice and be moved by her performances. Styx, Mel’s brother, provides the tempo and actual beat for the band. As the drummer, he exacts a measure that will have you bouncing your leg and slapping your knee. His solid, driving beat produces an accent to the music that only comes from time spent on the drum throne measuring out a song in steady doses. Stefon, T-bone and Mel’s oldest son, plays the conga drums with a flair and energy that only the young can produce. His hand become a blur of activity when the song needs that little something extra. His style of conga playing really adds a unique touch to the Set Free band.
